I also learned about a new web service today… Gravatar! The name stands for “Globally Recognized Avatar”, and you can sign up for an account at the gravatar.com website. Through your account, you link avatar images to your various email addresses. Other websites, then, can query their servers to see if an avatar has been associated with you. WordPress sites, for example, automatically display your avatar in this manner when you post a comment. That is, if you have registered your avatar on gravatar.com, you don’t need a local account on a WordPress-powered website in order for your avatar to be displayed when leaving a comment.
This website serves as a repository for photos, blog entries, and other creations from the somewhat random mind of Patrick M. Kelly. There may also be a bit of pocket lint or loose change in the lower right-hand corner.
