This easy-to-use widget for WordPress will display the most recent public images from your SmugMug account. All images are displayed using the same width, and linked to its original SmugMug display/purchase page. Widget configuration is simple, and does not require any special authorization steps.

Installation

This plugin is available directly from the official WordPress repository. Manual installation can be accomplished as follows:

  1. Unzip the plugin. The directory for this plugin is named smugmug-widget.
  2. Upload the plugin to the wp-content/plugins directory.
  3. Activate the plugin (“SmugMug Widget”) from the WordPress Dashboard.
  4. From the widget panel, you should now see the “SmugMug Widget” available for use!

Configuration

Widget configuration should be straightforward. The user specifies a title for the widget, the number of images to display, the desired image width, and the URL for a SmugMug recent-photo RSS feed.

To find the URL for your SmugMug account’s “Recent Photos” feed, log in to SmugMug and scroll to the bottom of the page. Click on the link that says “Available Feeds”:

You should then see Atom/RSS feeds for “Recent Galleries” and “Recent Photos”. Select the RSS feed for “Recent Photos” and copy the link location. (Some browsers will let you right-click on the link and select “Copy Link Location”.) Paste this link into the configuration box entitled “SmugMug RSS Feed URL”.

That should do it! Assuming there are publicly accessible images in the SmugMug account, the newest images should now display in the widget area of your WordPress site.

Known Issues

The refresh interval of the WordPress RSS reader defaults to 12 hours. So new images on SmugMug may not show up in your widget for that period of time. I hope to provide an override for that in the future.
