Fictional enterprise; real sign. Visitors to the Twisters location at 4257 Isleta Blvd. SW in Albuquerque, New Mexico are greeted by the “Los Pollos Hermanos” emblem still decorating the entrance. Never heard of “Los Pollos Hermanos”? Then I assume you’re not a fan of the groundbreaking AMC drama Breaking Bad. This restaurant served as a pivotal location in several of the show’s seasons.
Now, you’d think I was gearing up to watch the Super Bowl based on my level of anticipation for tonight’s series-finale episode. Like much of the country, I’ve been glued to the series watching a mild-mannered high-school chemistry teacher transform over the course of a couple of years into the likes of an intensely brutal drug kingpin. How will it end? I have my theories, and I have my preferences, but I can hardly wait to find out what the show’s writers came up with to close this out.
Back to the restaurant, though. This nondescript Twisters location has become a stop on both formal and informal Breaking-Bad tours through Albuquerque. During my last visit to this establishment, a newlywed couple from New Hampshire asked if I would take their photo next to the sign, which I was happy to do. The fact they were visiting from New Hampshire made the connection all the more enjoyable in hindsight. 🙂
